The Laptop Initiative
Inez Ribustello brought me some information today about the Laptop Initiative, she was curious about my opinion on the subject and I, honestly, had heard very little. After reading the articles I searched the web for more information about the program that apparently had been very successful in Greene County Schools and was up for consideration and FUNDING here in Edgecombe County.

The more information I found about the program, the more I knew it was something I would whole-heartedly endorse. If it means increasing our sales tax by 1/4 cent, by all means DO IT!!!
Here is the webpage for Greene County Schools.

See for yourselves, and decide for yourselves.
Is this something that would benefit OUR children?
From an article in the Daily Southerner:
"A quarter-cent sales tax referendum on the May 6 ballot will affect Edgecombe County school children throughout the Edgecombe County", said county Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlie Harrell. "It is crucial to pass the quarter-cent sales tax, to fund education the way we want it funded," he said. "If we don't pass it, then the laptop initiative we want for our school kids will not be possible. The only way we can do the laptop initiative is to pass it or increase property taxes. Every penny of the money received from the quarter-cent sales tax referendum will be used for education."
Thank you Inez, for bringing this to my attention.
