Two Projects with Potential

On top of planning for May's 2nd Saturday, I've been thinking ahead and a couple of projects could use some attention.

whole-grain-breads.jpgI was talking to Jennifer and Michael Price, the new owners of the Main Street Cafe', and they are trying to find a source for GREAT baked goods.  It's surprising that we don't have a local bakery.  Like many other Tarboro residents, the Prices would like to have a Food Buying Club or Grocery Cooperative.  Can we get a handful of people together willing to start one?  The how-to information is online, How To Start A Food Co-op , and I have printed out a hard copy if someone would like to read it offline.

The other project may require more planning, but I thought I'd throw it out to you and listen to some feedback.

RAF.jpgThe old Majestic Theater building is available (for sale or lease).  That's the building on Main Street that WAS going to be our "adult" store.  I had the realtor show it to me last week.  It's a large space and the owner is VERY willing to negotiate.  My idea is to use the front big room as a gallery to display the work of local artists and the back HUGE room for musical performances every Friday and Saturday night.  If the general store in Fountain can become a popular music spot, why can't Main Street, Tarboro?  The interior of the building is basically a one-story shell, but in my overly imaginative mind, it has potential.  The former owners had a new door installed that leads directly from the back space into the parking lot, and there is a second entrance on Main Street, so customers of the back part would not have to traipse through the gallery after hours.  I'm excited by the possibilities. How 'bout you?

If there is any interest, I'm willing to work on creating a plan to make it happen.

Interesting that you bring up the food coop today, since the idea was keeping me awake last night. LOL. I belonged to a food coop that delivered in Greenville, but the drive is just too much. Besides why should we have to drive to Greenville or Raleigh for all the good stuff? I'll be reading up on the information you posted. Thanks a bunch!

I love what you are doing in Tarboro! We need someone like you to open the doors of POTENTIAL that have been hidden for so long! I love the idea of an art gallery and live music! Are you kidding me - LIVE music in T- town! WHAT?? I would love to see the "cultural aspects" of Tarboro residents. Keep up the good work! Tarboro is coming ALIVE!

We have live music every Saturday night downtown at the Underground pub. Unfortunately, over the past few months the popularity has dwindled to the point where we may not be able to afford to continue it. In addition, the owners of the building are claiming that the live music violates the town noise ordinance (which by the way does not apply to the downtown area). I wish that there were more folks (citizens, town managers and councilmembers) actually devoted to keeping the downtown area active but it seems that initial interest in activities is often followed by a period of apathy.

To Karen, whose post I removed.
I do not know the details of the situation you refer to, but this website is not the appropriate forum.
