Grassroots of Tarboro

Tomorrow morning a meeting has been scheduled to plan and organize Tarboro's first Second Saturday.  I'm hoping that the word is out and folks will actually show up to get this thing going. I hand delivered notices to about 50 businesses downtown and mailed out another 50 notices with explanatory cover letters to council members, business owners, churches, nonprofit groups and individuals who have expressed an interest. I emailed reminders to a few dozen people and told every one I met.  The article in Friday's paper should have reached people I didn't contact.  Now, my fingers are crossed that enough people will show willing to put in a bit of time and energy to make this happen.

If we can just get the first one together, following months should be easier and more people will volunteer.

I've been making a list to use our limited meeting time to the best advantage.  We have a sign in sheet so Destin can keep track of everybody who shows, and what they are willing to do.

We'll need to discuss which types of activities we want to tackle and who will do what when it comes to organizing.  I've thrown out some suggestions but I'd like to hear from the others as well.  My only requirement for this meeting is to delegate some of the organizing so things go beyond planning, into organizing and scheduling. We'll need to arrange the next meeting, too, and perhaps we can have one in the evening to allow day-workers the chance to participate.
